Letter from our CEO
My name is Mark Clapp, MD, and I am the CEO and founder of Phoenix Rural Health, an organization created to save struggling rural hospitals. Nearly 200 rural hospitals have closed since 2005 and hundreds more are at a crisis point. Phoenix was founded in 2019 with the closure of our hometown hospital in Jamestown, Tennessee – an avoidable and needless tragedy. If only I knew then what I know now.
Phoenix is not business as usual. Our goal is to acquire or partner with at-risk Critical Access Hospitals, utilizing in-place management and infrastructure, providing capital, and our expertise in Medicare’s cost-based reimbursement structure. Most Critical Access Hospitals have already done what is possible based on their current understanding of the market. It’s time for something new. Is your hospital’s survival worth admitting that what you and your staff are doing isn’t working and something new is needed? Phoenix is a solution.
Phoenix received commitment from private investors to move forward with our plans to acquire 4 Critical Access Hospitals, with investments ranging up to $10 million each.
Because public records are not complete, up-to-date, or sufficient, it is not always possible to identify when a hospital might be in crisis and looking for a fresh start. We want to identify hospitals that need and want our help.
The first step to solving any problem is admitting its presence and your inability to solve it. My hometown hospital closed as I sat by believing someone else would fix the problem until it was just too late. Now, every day I drive by and see the closed building that used to be where I practiced medicine and helped the people of my town. It is just sad.
Does your hospital need to do something different? Don’t wait until it is too late.
I wouldn’t be writing this letter if I didn’t believe that we could help your hospital avoid our tragedy. Please fill out the form below or text my cell phone to get the conversation started.
